Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me and my experiences.
From a young age I always enjoyed caring for and spending time with children. This led me to complete my studies in early childhood and become a kindergarten teacher. After teaching in small rural kindergartens for several years I travelled to USA and worked for two summers at a camp for people with disabilities. The summer camp ignited my passion for working with people with disabilities and directed me to complete studies in special education and subsequently work with children on the Autism Spectrum and their families. I worked for four years, staying in family’s homes and supporting them with a range of challenges both in the home and in the community.
During this time, I also began volunteering as a Host Carer with Family Care. This involved me caring for two young boys with disabilities once a month in my own home. Over the 10+ years of my hosting, the families are now a part of my family.
My work continued in the disability sector working for 2 years as an Early Childhood Intervention Practitioner in early childhood intervention services. It was here I saw the effects trauma was having on children and families, and I realised I didn’t have the skills to support these families, but I wished I did. I also realised the importance and potential in supporting children as early as possible.
I went on to complete training in developmental trauma which further sparked my interest and led me to sign up to complete the Masters in Child Play Therapy. In amongst this, I completed the clinical program in child centered play therapy and began working as a child centered play therapist in a school setting.
In 2019 I finished my Master’s in Child Play Therapy at Deakin University. I also completed my work as a play therapist within a school setting and started my own business supporting children, families and services in the Goulburn Valley.
Through the training, professional development, work experiences and personal endeavours I have encountered, I have developed, honed and extended my experience, knowledge and skills. I am a strong believer that we never stop learning and growing and I continue to attend workshops, conferences and professional development opportunities. I also receive supervision to support my growth and development as a practitioner.
I am a fully registered, non-practicing, Early Childhood Teacher with Victorian Institute of teaching and subscribe and adhere to their Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics. I am also a Provisionally Registered Play Therapist with the Australasia Pacific Play Therapy Association (APPTA), and an Affiliate Member of the Australian Play Therapists Association (APTA). I value and uphold APPTA’s Clinical competencies and Practice Standards for Play Therapy as well as APTA’s Play Therapy Best Practice guidelines. I also have a current Working with Children Check.
